This accelerated process is open to persons with police experience. Candidates must have at least of one year full-time sworn police experience with a law enforcement agency. Candidates must be certifiable as law enforcement officers within the state of Wisconsin. Out of state and military police candidates must complete the Wisconsin reciprocity process prior to their start date. Selected candidates will be cross trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMT). Newly hired officers are strongly encouraged to become paramedics, but it is not a mandatory requirement. Lateral hires may be placed at a higher pay and vacation step based upon years of prior service. Lateral entry annual pay ranges from $62,152 with one year of prior experience and up to $81,779 with 6 years of prior experience and obtaining EMT/Fire certifications. Obtaining a paramedic certification increases top pay to $85,779. Accelerated pay takes effect upon successful completion of Field Training. Accelerated vacation takes place upon successful completion of an 18-month probationary period. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed periodically. Qualifications and the selection process are conducted at the Village's discretion.
Public Safety Officer (PSO) Position Description
A Public Safety Officer performs the following duties of law enforcement, emergency medical services, and firefighting during a 24-hour shift. Officers are State certified as law enforcement, Fire Fighter II, and either EMT or Paramedic. Each workday is a 24-hour shift beginning at 7:00 a.m., during which they are assigned an 8 hour police patrol shift with the other 16 hours being assigned to fire or EMS response. Career advancement is available with such special assignments as: Investigations, Police/School Liaison, Fire or Crime Prevention, Arson Investigator, DAAT/Firearms Instructor, DARE Officer, K-9 Handler, and others. The Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety is a full-service agency and the only such agency in the State of Wisconsin.
A Public Safety Officer I starts out as a Night Shift Officer for a maximum of three calendar years or until they have basic police, fire, and EMS certifications obtained and there is an opening on a 24-hour shift.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age.
- Qualified applicant shall have no felony convictions or domestic violence related convictions and shall possess a valid driver's license.
- Upon completion of the probationary period you must reside within 15 miles of the Village's boundaries.
- At least 1 year of prior Law Enforcement experience and eligible for WI LE Standards Board Certification
